A clinical microbiologist at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Dr. Rachel Oladele, has called on hospital administrators to adopt strict infection control policies in their institutions.

Oladele made this call while delivering her a lecture titled, ‘Breaking the Chain of Infection’ at an event organised by Reckitt Benckiser during the 56th  Nigeria Medical Association Annual Conference in Lagos.

She said it was important for health workers to wash and disinfect their hands and the environment, as well as to imbibe infection control strategies to ensure that patients do not contract bacterial or viral infections in the hospitals.

Oladele said,“Hygiene cuts across every sphere of life. It could be personal, environmental, food and water, home and hospital-related hygiene. We must take all aspects of it seriously to avoid germs and reduce our risks of getting infections.”
