The Vice-President, Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Mr. Bartholomew Brai, has said that skipping breakfast could lead to insulin intolerance.

According to him, people who skip breakfast resort to overeating later in the day, thus encouraging nibbling on high calorie snacks during the day.

Brai said this at the re-launch of new Milo with Activ-Go in Lagos.

He also said that those who eat breakfast tend to score higher grades in school.

The nutritionist advised that breakfast should contain all classes of foods, such as calcium, vitamins A & C, riboflavin, zinc and iron.

According to him, breakfast supplies the energy needed for one to start the metabolic processes in the body.

Brai said, “Breakfast supplies many beneficial nutrients and refuels glycogen stores. Eating breakfast helps to improve moods and creativity among schoolchildren.

“People should take breakfast within an hour of waking up and not later than 8am to get its full benefits. You can just have an apple in addition to beverage and bread.”

The Managing Director, Nestle Nigeria, Mr. Dharnesh Gordhon, said that beverages that supply micro and macronutrients should be the preferred choice of breakfast for children.
