LUTH old students rehabilitate facilities, 30 years after

Old students of the School of Nursing, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, Lagos State, have refurbished the institution’s sickbay, kitchenette, bathrooms and common room, among other facilities.

While unveiling the facilities on Friday, the Principal of the school, Mrs. R. A. Adetunji, commended the 1986 set, which rehabilitated them.

She said that the effort of the ex-students was critical to securing full accreditation for the school, which had been on provisional accreditation for three consecutive times.

She added that the refurbished facilities would promote the standard of the school.

The principal said, “Our illustrious ex-students have decided to renovate our students/ nurses/midwives’ sickbay,  which we are renaming the Health Bay.

“They have painted the walls and tiled the floors. Also, they have changed the baths, taps, water closets and refurbished the kitchenette. They have provided us with branded chairs, painted our beds, changed the chairs of our common room and provided us with a 3-D board, among several other items.”

She said plans were afoot by the ex-students to build a bigger lecture hall, a hostel for male students, a library and more offices.

Adetunji said all the facilities had been demanded by the Nursing Council of Nigeria in order for the school to get full accreditation.

A representative of the 1986 set, Mrs. Dupe Oloye, said, “It is our dream to give back to the alma mater that God has used to give us a solid foundation in life. The school has done a lot for us and we have decided to give back to the school.”

Also, the old students honoured an ex-principal of the school, Mrs. Toriola Aina, in commemoration of their (ex-students’) 30 years in the nursing profession.

They commended Aina for her hard work, kindness and love when she held sway as the head of the school.
